Description:
The Farmer's Wife is a small, handmade business specializing in wooden signage, laser cutting and building furniture. I am looking for someone to assist with production and order fulfillment. A desire to work with your hands, attention to detail, and high level of craftsmanship is key. No experience with woodworking machinery or lasers is required (but is a plus!).

Requirements:

  • You enjoy hands on work and don’t mind repetition in tasks

  • You’re detail oriented

  • You are self motivated

  • You are curious; you don’t mind learning new techniques, machinery, or production methods.

  • You are flexible! As with any growing business, this can be a shifting environment. There’s a shared understanding that we are learning as we go.

  • This can be physical work; must be able to lift 25lbs regularly.

A typical day involves…

  • Sanding and preparing materials for production

  • Painting / Staining materials

  • Assembling frames

  • Glueing laser cut pieces onto signs

  • Packing orders for shipment

  • Occasional opportunities to work as a vendor at markets

  • Shop cleanup/organization

  • Working on my website, Facebook, pinterest or instagram.

Other Duties:

  • Operating laser; I will provide training

  • Running power equipment; based on skill/comfort level. I will provide training.

    • Using a circular saw to cut materials to size

    • Using a miter saw to cut frames

  • Coordinate production schedule for the workshop

The Details:

  • All work is produced in The Farmer's Wife shop in Marshfield, WI. I am seeking someone with Monday-Friday daytime availability for 5-10 hours a week or as needed. Opportunity for more hours as you grow into your role.

  • Most of the work is physical labor; expect to stand and move around most of the day.

  • Dress is casual; the workshop environment can be messy!

  • Compensation depends on experience; starting pay is $10/hr.

  • This is an at-will employment opportunity and you will be paid as in independent contractor.

  • The Farmer's Wife will provide training; we expect you to be proactive in the process and learn quickly.
